Craven County will receive $14,794 to implement its emergency management. Clark said, “We are pleased to be able to offer this support to the county emergency management agencies so that they will be more able to assist their citizens in a time of disaster.” The funds are part of a $1.3 million Emergency Manage ment Assistance grant made available to the state by the federal government. Tom Pugh, director of the department’s Division of Emergency Management, said, ”We are particularly pleased that this year as a part of our continuing efforts, we have been able not only to increase the total dollars available to the counties but also provide greater percentage than before.” “This increased level of funding is indicative of the state’s commitment to the emergency management agencies at the local level,” he said. Almost 72 percent of the federal EMA allocation is being made to the local govern ments. This is a .53 percent increase over last year.
